KIRCO – has completed the redevelopment and construction of the new Americas headquarters for DSM Engineering Plastics located on the iconic Columbia Center campus in Troy, Mich, one of SE Michigan’s premier corporate addresses.

“We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with DSM on its new headquarters.  Together, we transformed a prime location at Columbia Center into a state-of-the-art, collaborative, and truly inspiring workspace for DSM,” said Matt Kiriluk, president, KIRCO. “It’s exciting to see the vision for the space come to fruition. The conversion of the workspace will not only benefit DSM’s clients, but also largely impact DSM’s personnel through the continued fostering of productivity, recruitment, and retention.”

Utilizing sustainable design elements, KIRCO and KIRCO MANIX worked to convert the 31,055 square-foot former-Bally Fitness space into a world-class headquarters, and completed the project in 5 months. Demolition of the fitness facility previously occupying the space began in August 2015. Construction of the space was completed by KIRCO MANIX, the construction services division of KIRCO.

“We are looking forward to our new home in Troy, and thank KIRCO for the effort to build this world-class facility. The tight cooperation has resulted in an excellent working space at a great location in Metro Detroit, new to our customers,” said Richard Pieters, president of DSM Engineering Plastics – Americas.

Relocated from its office in Birmingham, Mich., DSM Engineering Plastics’ Americas new headquarters includes: open, collaborative work spaces flooded with natural light; private offices with glass fronts; five large conference rooms with the flexibility to be combined into one or more larger configured conference spaces; a large central staircase with a glass and stainless steel railing system; all of which is accentuated by natural light from the barrel-vaulted translucent ceiling system; a contemporary European-influenced lobby with clean lines and warm wood accents; European-inspired interior design features include a sophisticated soft gray color palette with bright accent colors and modern furniture pieces; a mezzanine level collaboration area; and covered parking with direct entry into the building.

In addition, a proposed adjacent space is being developed as a dedicated Application Development Center, which is to be used for material testing, automotive plastics research, and technology development. This center within its headquarters will further facilitate DSM’s ability to support customers in their efforts to develop innovative, new products.

KIRCO and DSM engaged local design firm, Davis & Davis Interior Design, who specializes in corporate interiors and interior lobby renovations. Davis & Davis collaborated with the team to manifest a creative and successful design embracing DSM’s core values represented in their new headquarters. Working closely with KIRCO MANIX during the construction of this project ensured the seamless and efficient connection between design and construction. DSM is a leader in sustainable solutions, making the use of recycled and recyclable materials a key element in the overall design of their new office.
