Kalamazoo College – Kalamazoo, MI

Kalamazoo College’s Angell Field Athletic complex was remodeled by KIRCO MANIX in 2012. The project consisted of a new 25,000 SF field house with multiple locker rooms, training/fitness rooms, meeting/classrooms, and a second story alumni gathering area that connects to the upper level athletic fields. The remodel included new artificial turf football and soccer fields as well as new natural turf baseball and softball fields, and new grass practice fields for soccer and football.

The new plan provides for better circulation and improved access by installing new walkways throughout the complex. A new football press box was also constructed with new concession stands and restrooms. Individual press boxes were also built for soccer, softball, and baseball.

Challenges:

  • Simultaneous management of five sub-projects resulting in very limited logistical staging space
  • Hi-Visibility site adjacent to both Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College required maintaining “marketingappeal” at site perimeter while providing safe assembly for students of both schools
  • State-of-the-art HVAC required multiple Geo Thermal borings and significant sub-grade piping systems
